The secret for a good
video game adaptation is as tightly hidden as any of the artifacts Lara Croft
has so painstakingly fought to acquire over the multiple videogames she has starred
in, but that does not mean studios have stopped trying.
We know that a big
screen reboot of the character is happening with a script by Snow White and the
Huntsman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles scribe Evan Daugherty, and now
according to The Tracking Board we have a list of possible directors too.
According to the site,
Warner Bros. has narrowed down their search for a director to Kathryn Bigelow,
Catherine Hardwicke, and Mimi Leder.
Known for The Hurt
Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, and the original Point Break, getting Bigelow to
direct a videogame adaptation would be great for the genre, but I'm not seeing
the filmmaker going from two consecutive Oscar nominated films to Tomb Raider,
even if her last feature film was in 2012.
Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen,
Lords of Dogtown, Red Riding Hood, and Twilight) would also be a great choice,
but her busy schedule may prevent her from signing on to the project.
The dark horse of the
trio is Mimi Leder, who despite having making a splash in the 90's with The
Peacemaker and Deep Impact, has been more at home on TV, where she has directed
episodes for plenty of shows including Human Target and Almost Human.
