20th Century Fox and
director Matt Reeves are ramping things up for War of the Planet of the Apes,
the third entry the new Apes franchise, with a bit of casting. According to
Deadline and THR, Gabriel Chavarria has landed one of the Human lead roles in
the upcoming movie.
After roles in
Freedom Writers, Teacher of the Year, Aquarius, and upcoming Low Riders, War of
the Planet of the Apes will mark the Chavarria's biggest break yet.
We still don't know
where the next film will take us but according to previous comments given by
the director, and screenwriter Mark Bomback, War of the Planet of the Apes will
see Andy Serkis' Caeser become a Moses type figure in a time of war against the
Humans.
So far the franchise
hasn't landed a perfect balance between the Humans and the Apes. The
first one leaned more towards the Humans drama despite a couple of great Apes
characters, while the second was heavily focused on the Apes in detriment of Human
drama and characters, so here is hoping that the third one strikes a better
balance.
With a July 14, 2017
release date already set, War of the Planet of the Apes will probably start
shooting later this year or early next year.
