Sony Pictures and writer/director Joe Carnahan (The
Grey, Smokin Aces) are in early talks for him to re-write and possibly direct
the third installment in the action comedy franchise, Bad Boys. If Carnahan
joins the project, he would re-write the script penned by Safe House scribe,
David Guggenheim.
The idea is to have
everything ready to go as soon as possible so Will Smith would return to
reprise his role once shooting on David Ayer's Suicide Squad is finished. At
this time, Smith's involvement in the project has not been confirmed, nor has Martin
Lawrence's, who played Smith's partner in the first two films.
The previous two
films were directed by Michael Bay, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and had a
combined box-office gross of around $400 million.
Carnahan credits also
include Narc, Stretch, State of Affairs, The Blacklist, and The A-Team.
