Days after learning that Cary Fukunaga would no longer direct the new
adaptation of Stephen King's It for New Line due creative differences and budget
cuts, which would prevent him from shooting in New York, Bloody Disgusting is
claiming that the project might be on its way back to Warner Bros. where it was
initially set.
The change of studios is curious since the reason it moved in the first
place was because of Warner's budget cuts. Even stranger is that Warner is apparently
going to use both scripts Fukunaga co-wrote with Chase Palmer, and is keen on
having the film be shot in New York, which makes it sound like the creative and
budget issues cited for Fukunaga's departure were just a cheap excuse.
Whatever the case may be the studio is looking for another director and
production on the first film is expected to begin later this year.
The first film focuses on the lead characters as children, while the second
focuses on them as adults, with The Maze Runner actor Will Poulter signed on to
play Pennywise in both. The issue now is that the actor signed when Fukunaga
was onboard to direct, but given the recent changes it's unclear if he remains
attached to the project.
