The last we heard of Guillermo Del Toro's Justice
League Dark film set in Warner Bros. DC Universe, the script was finished and
had been sent to the studio for approval. Now while promoting The Strain, the
director offered an update and revealed that he may or may not direct the
supernatural superhero film depending on his schedule.
"We turned in our [script] revision, and it all
depends on the calendar, you know?" the filmmaker told IGN. "If I can do
it, I would love to do it. And I think the screenplay and the characters are
very solid."
As we know, del Toro has a busy schedule. Besides The
Strain, Crimson Peak, and the planned Pacific Rim sequels, the filmmaker is
also helping produce other big screen and small screen projects, so it's comprehensible,
though unfortunate that he might not be able to commit to a film not similar to
but part off Warner Bros. already going DC shared cinematic universe. The
director addressed this issue by simply stating that if his schedule doesn't
line up then "somebody will do it."
Not all of what makes del Toro a great director stems
from what is written in the script. His attention to detail, gorgeous visual
style, and designs are among the best in the business, so it would be a shame
if someone else would end up directing the property.
The filmmaker caps things by saying "You cannot
say, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it after I do this,’ or ‘I have the first season of The
Strain,' [Justice League Dark] needs to
fall into the plan of the DC Universe."
