Guy
Ritchie is in negotiations to board Disney's upcoming live-action retelling of their
1992 classic animated feature film Aladdin.
Dan
Lin, who was a producer on Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films is set to produce
what Disney is claiming will be a "non-traditional" and "ambitious"
take on the story.
Big
Fish screenwriter John August penned the script for Aladdin, which insiders say
will retain many of the musical elements from the animated classic. Still to be
determined however is the role of Genie, a character famously played by Robin
Williams, whose singular and wild performance defined part of his legacy.
In
addition to keeping most of the original Academy Award winning music, Aladdin
will also be non-linear, meaning it will jump back and forth in time.
Aladdin
was part of Disney renaissance, which started in 1989 with The Little Mermaid.
