Back in December five
actresses were reportedly being eyed to take the lead role in the upcoming
fifth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales, and among
them was Maze Runner star Kaya Scodelario. Now producer Jerry Bruckheimer has
confirmed that the actress has indeed landed the role. Bruckheimer also
revealed that production will start this February in Queensland, Australia.
Scodelario will be
seen later this year in September 18 in the sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch
Trials, where she will reprise her Teresa role.
Johnny Depp, and
Geoffrey Rush will be reprising their roles from the original franchise,
Captain Jack Sparrow, and Captain Barbossa. Javier Bardem is set to play
Captain Brand, the film's villain, while Brenton Thwaites has been cast as
British soldier Henry, and love interest to Scodelario's character.
Kon-Tiki directors
Joachim Ronning, and Espen Sandberg have been brought onboard to rewrite and
direct this latest entry in the franchise, which will hit theaters on July 7,
2017.
Caught the premiere of #Mortdecai last night. Loved Johnny's performance. Really funny movie. Excited to start shooting Pirates next month.
