Deadline is reporting that Djimon
Hounsou has joined the cast of director David Yates' adaptation of Edgar Rice
Borrough's 1912 book, Tarzan of the Apes. Hounsou will play Chief Mbonga.
The live action is rumored to
pick up after Borrough's original story, and will instead follow Tarzan, who
has been assimilated by the British society of the era, in a mission to the
Congo under the orders from Queen Victoria.
Tarzan also stars Alexander
SkarsgÄrd will star as the titular hero along with Margot
Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz.
Tarzan opens on July 1st, 2016.
