Last June we reported that actor Tom Hardy had joined director Takashi Miike’s (Ichi the Killer) The Outsider, and was going to play an American former prisoner of war that rises in the Yakuza in a post-World War II Japan, but now according to Twitch, Hardy has backed out of the project. Pre-production was already underway but has now been put on hold. The site also reports that due to Hardy’s departure, director Takashi Miike also dropped out due to scheduling conflicts as he can’t wait for things to be back put in motion, forcing the studio to find not only a new leading man but also a new director.
The film is based on an idea by
John Linson and was written by Andrew Baldwin.
