The iconic character Jessica Fletcher will be returning in a new and updated reboot of the classic tv mystery series Murder, She Wrote, with the Oscar winning actress Octavia Spencer as the lead.
The original
run of the show went from 1984 to 1996 on CBS and starred Angela Lansbury as
the English teacher turned mystery writer who would solve crimes. Per Deadline,
the new show, which is being developed by NBC will be a “light, contemporary
procedural in the vein of Bones or Fargo,” with Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate
Housewives) penning the script and executive producing.
This
new incarnation of Jessica Fletcher will be different from the previous one,
since Spencer will play a hospital administrator and amateur private eye who self-publishes
her first mystery book with the logline:
“Set
in a day where sensational headlines inundate the news, this woman’s avid
fascination with true crime leads her to become an active participant in the
investigations.”
