Because I believe that not everything is or should be made in Hollywood by the big studios, this project came close to heart when I first read about it.

THE
FILM GENESIS
The Nostalgist film
project began in 2009 when London-based Italian filmmaker Giacomo Cimini and American author Daniel H. Wilson connected online in the
name of their love for robotics and science fiction.
At
the time, Giacomo had just screened his thesis sci-fi short film, City in the Sky, at the Venice Film Festival, and
Daniel had just sold the film rights to his novel Robopocalypse to none other than Dreamworks and Steven
Spielberg.
Giacomo
fell in love with The Nostalgist short
story (published by Tor.com and
available online for free here) and sent the
author a link to City in the Sky. The
two immediately recognized that they shared a similar vision.
Four
years on… as Spielberg's version of Robopocalypse is in the works in Hollywood, a much
(much, much) smaller team has joined forces on the other side of the Atlantic
to bringThe Nostalgist to the big screen as a short film.
In July 2012, Giacomo and his producing partners Pietro Greppi and Tommaso Colognese formed Wonder Room Productions.
They started by commissioning the wonderfully evocative artwork
of concept artist LRNZ, then spent months preparing and assembling
enough resources and talented collaborators among friends, family and colleagues
until finally getting the cameras rolling on The Nostalgist in January 2013.
THE
ORIGINAL STORY
The
Nostalgist short story was a finalist for the Year’s Best Science Fiction:
2009. First published on Tor.com in
July 2009, the story is available for free on the website and is available for
download from major e-book retailers.
