Dope breakout star
and star of HBO's hip-hop drama The Get Down Shameik Moore has come aboard Sony
Pictures' upcoming Spider-Man animated feature film where he will voice the eponymous
hero Miles Morales (not Peter Parker), a.k.a. Spider-Man.
In addition to Moore,
Ray Donovan star Liev Schreiber is set to lend his voice to the yet unknown
film villain.
Phil Lord ("The
LEGO Movie") penned the script and is producing it alongside his frequent creative
partner Chris Miller.
Directing the yet
untitled animated film is The Little Prince writer Bob Persichetti and Rise of
the Guardians' Peter Ramsey.
Created by Brian
Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Miles Morales's debut happened in 2011 during
Marvel's Ultimate imprint, which told stories set in an alternate universe. Morales
grew in popularity, and when the publisher ended the imprint in 2015, he moved
to Earth-616, Marvel's mainstream line.
Born to an African-American
father and Puerto Rican mother, Miles' story isn't too dissimilar from that of
Peter Parker, except instead of Uncle Ben, it is Peter who sets Miles on his
path to become the hero known as Spider-Man.
