On
the heels of winning six Oscars statuettes, writer/director Damien Chazelle and
actor Ryan Gosling are reteaming for the adaptation of James R. Hansen's book
First Man by Oscar-winning screenwriter Josh Singer ("Spotlight").
Set
between 1961 and 1969, First Man centers on NASA's mission to land a man on the
Moon, exploring the sacrifices endured by both Neil Armstrong and the United
States of America to complete one of the most dangerous but captivating missions
in history.
Gosling,
who was previously reported as being in negotiations to join the film, is
playing Armstrong.
Chazelle
and Gosling will produce the film alongside Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen from Temple
Hill Entertainment.
DreamWorks
Pictures will co-finance the film, which Universal has scheduled to open in
theaters on October 12, 2018.
