Paramount Pictures
has tapped Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight to helm their
Transformers spinoff movie centered on the voiceless robot in disguise
Bumblebee.
Christina Hodson ("Shut
In") is writing the script for the movie, which is slated for a June 8,
2018 release.
For Knight, who made
his directorial debut last year with the Oscar nominated and BAFTA winning stop-motion
animation Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee will be his first live-action
directorial effort.
Bumblebee is part of
Paramount's Transformers universe, which is being guided by Akiva Goldsman, who
heads the writer's room and has been tasked with the expansion of the
franchise.
Besides Bumblebee, an
untitled animated feature film is currently in the works as well.
The next entry in the
main franchise opens in theaters this year on June 23. Transformers: The Last
Knight is directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci,
Anthony Hopkins, Isabela Moner, John Goodman, Josh Duhamel, and John Turturro.
Hasbro's Brian
Goldner and Stephen Davis are producing the film along with Lorenzo Di
Bonaventura, Steven Spielberg, and Michael Bay.
