Mike Mitchell, the
director of DreamWorks Animation's hit Trolls, has been brought onboard to helm
The LEGO Movie sequel for Warner Bros. Animation.
Mitchell comes as Rob
Schrab ("Community," "The Mindy Project") departs over what
is being reported as "creative differences".
Original The LEGO
Movie writers and directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord, whom have just entered
production on the Star Wars spinoff film centered on a young Han Solo, wrote
the first draft of the script, which was subsequently re-written by Raphael
Bob-Waksberg, the creator of Netflix's animated comedy BoJack Horseman.
Mitchell's credits
also include Sky High, Shrek Forever After, Alvin and the Chipmunks:
Chipwrecked, and the live-action sequences of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out
of Water.
The LEGO Movie 2
opens in theaters on February 8, 2019.
