Warner Bros. has offered The
Batman's director's chair to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and upcoming War for
the Planet of the Apes filmmaker Matt Reeves who is in early talks to replace
Ben Affleck at the helm of the anticipated superhero standalone movie.
Affleck, who was attached to
direct the solo Batman movie, dropped out from directing last week after much
deliberation on his part.
"Performing this
role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give," Affleck
said in a statement. "It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs
[acting in and directing the film] to the level they require. Together with the
studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate
with me on this massive film."
According to THR, the
studio moved quickly for Reeves, and both parties have already had multiple
conversations.
In case negotiations fall
apart, Warner has other directors they are considering for the job including
Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez, but Reeves is the studio's top pick.
Affleck is still
onboard as both star and producer. The Batman was co-written by Affleck and DC
Films co-head Geoff Johns.
