On March 3rd, Hugh
Jackman's last hurrah as the legendary Marvel mutant Wolverine will hit
theaters.
Set in the near future, Logan sees a weary Wolverine having to take care of
an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in a hide out on the Mexican border.
But Wolverine's attempt to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when
a young mutant (X-23) arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
Speaking to We Got This Covered, Logan director James Mangold revealed that
he is enamored with Dafne Keen's portrayal of Laura Kinney, a.k.a. X-23, and would
not mind revisiting the character in perhaps a standalone film.
"I think Dafne
is incredible in the film and I would love to see another film about that
character and that’s certainly something I’d be involved in. For me that was
one of the big additions I brought to the table, this decision to try to make
the film about family and to try to insert Laura and the pressures that would
put and the idea about Charles ailing."
With Jackman
seemingly out of Fox's X-Men universe, the studio seems to be positioning Keen and
X-23 to take over the Wolverine role, so it is not surprising to hear Mangold talking about wanting to be involved in a future movie involving or
centered on the character.
Logan also stars Boyd
Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Eriq La
Salle, and Elise Neal.
