Earlier this year on
January 18, Guillermo del Toro took to Twitter to gauge fans interest in a
possible sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army. After thousands and thousands
of "Yes" and "Hell, yes" votes on the Twitter poll, the
filmmaker arranged a meeting with character creator Mike Mignola and franchise
star Ron Perlman to discuss the promised third film.
Well it seems that
talks did happened, but unfortunately the outcome is not what fans
expected.
Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it— Guillermo del Toro (@RealGDT) 21 de fevereiro de 2017
The director didn't
elaborate on why Hellboy III isn't moving forward, but it was always a long
shot for a couple of different reasons. First, Hellboy and Hellboy II were both
distributed by different studios, Columbia Pictures and Universal Pictures,
respectively, and second, neither film was a box office juggernaut. Hellboy (2004)
grossed just under $100 million worldwide on a $66 million production budget, while
Hellboy II: The Golden Army grossed $160 million worldwide on an $85 million
production budget.
