
Willem Defoe is
joining the cast of Kenneth Branagh's upcoming big screen adaptation of Agatha
Christie's mystery novel Murder on the Orient Express.
Branagh directs and
stars in the film as the fictional Belgian sleuth, pardon, detective Hercule Poirot,
who must solve a puzzling murder case while aboard a train and surrounded by
many likely suspects, including Defoe's character.
Defoe will play Mr.
Hardman, a typewriting ribbon seller who may or may not have secret ties to the
victim.

Michael Green ("Blade Runner 2049"), Murder on the
Orient Express also stars Johnny Depp as Mr. Ratchett, Daisy Ridley as Mary
Debenham, Michelle Pfeiffer as Mrs. Hubbard, Judi Dench as Princess
Dragomiroff, Michael Peña as Marquez, Lucy Boynton as Countess Andrenyi,
Miranda Raison as Sonia Armstrong, Leslie Odom Jr. as Dr. Constantine, Derek
Jacobi as Edward Masterman, and Josh Gad as Hector McQueen.
Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg, and Mark Gordon are
producing with James Prichard, the author’s great-grandson and chairman of
Agatha Christie Ltd., and Hilary Strong, CEO at Agatha Christie Ltd., executive
producing.
