
Paramount Pictures
has released the first trailer for Silence, Martin Scorsese's 17th Century religious
and cultural drama set in Japan.
Based on Shusaku
Endo’s 1966 highly praised novel, Silence stars Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield
as two Christian missionaries who travel to Japan in a time when Christianity
was outlawed, to search for their mentor played by Liam Neeson.
Opening in theaters
on December 23, Silence also stars Tadanobu Asano, Ciarán Hinds, Ryô Kase, Nana
Komatsu, and Issei Ogata.
Martin Scorsese’s
SILENCE tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam
Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search
of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) – at a time when Christianity was outlawed
and their presence forbidden. The celebrated director’s 28-year journey to
bring Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel to life will be in theaters this
Christmas.
