British thespian
James Norton has signed on to star in the upcoming remake of the '90s sci-fi
horror thriller Flatliners starring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts,
Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, and Oliver Platt for Sony Pictures.
Norton is set to play
a medical student opposite fellow actors Ellen Page ("Juno"), Diego
Luna ("Milk"), Nina Dobrev ("The Vampire Diaries"), and
Kiersey Clemons ("Dope").
In the original
movie, Sutherland, Roberts, Bacon, Baldwin, and Platt, play a group of
med-school buddies who in an attempt to discover what awaits us after
death concoct a plan to temporarily "flatline" themselves one at a
time, stopping all brain activity, to briefly experience death before being
resuscitated. A number of them are "killed" and brought back with
vivid memories of their past, and the experiment is deemed a success. However,
it seems as though they may have gotten more than they bargained for when their
past literally comes back to haunt them.
Original Girl with
the Dragon Tattoo filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev is set to direct from a script by
Ben Ripley ("Source Code"). Michael Douglas and Laurence Mark are
producing.
Norton's credits includes
roles in Mr. Turner, An Education, Belle, Rush, Happy Valley, and War &
Peace.
