As part of their deal
with Sony to get Spider-Man to join the MCU, Marvel will now have to relinquish
one of their own to the other side, and what better character to send over than Iron
Man.
This time last week,
Robert Downey Jr. teased on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he was in negotiations to join
Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which makes sense since Downey is the
only actor who is free of the multi-film contract and whose only legal
obligation to the studio is to appear in the Avengers: Infinity War parts one
and two.
Now however, there
have been some developments and according to several news sources the actor has
finalized his deal with both studios, and is on his way to join the latest
Spider-Man reboot.
Details on what sort of
role Iron Man will have in Homecoming are under wraps, but in Civil War
Spider-Man is personally recruited by Tony Stark to join his side of the battle,
so perhaps he will be some sort of mentor to the young Peter Parker.
To be directed by Jon
Watts ("Cop Car") from a script by John Francis Daley and Jonathan
Goldstein (whom have just joined the Hasbro cinematic universe writers room),
Spider-Man: Homecoming also stars Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, and
Laura Harrier.
Spider-Man:
Homecoming opens in theaters on July 7, 2017.
