Today, Finding Dory
director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo and Wall-E) revealed one of Pixar's best-kept
secrets, and one that they have been hiding for over 25 years. Keep in mind today is April 1st.
Hank,
Finding Dory's "cantankerous octopus with camouflaging capabilities, has
appeared in every one of their feature films since 1995’s Toy Story," said
the director. "Every Pixar fan knows that we love Easter Eggs, and until
now, Hank has been our most closely guarded secret. There are even people
internally at Pixar who don’t know about this."
Voiced
by Modern Family star Ed O’Neill, Hank is a septopus (issing a tentacle), who "started
off as a bit of an inside joke between those of us who were here at Pixar in
the very beginning," said the filmmaker. "But since then, finding a
place for him in our films has become part of our culture, and I’m glad we
finally get to introduce him properly to fans."
Opening
in theaters on June 17, Finding Dory's voice cast also includes Ellen DeGeneres Albert Brooks, Diane
Keaton, Idris Elba, Ty Burrell, Eugene Levy, Dominic
West, Willem Dafoe, and Kaitlin Olsen.
Disney and Pixar's “Finding Dory” reunites everyone’s favorite forgetful
blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about
her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn
to speak Whale?
