After hearing that
20th Century Fox was going for a YA vibe to their upcoming X-Men spinoff movie
New Mutants, word has got out that they may have already found some
age-appropriate cast members to play some of the elements in the movie. However,
keep in mind that writer/director Josh Boone and his writing partner Kante
Gwaltney have yet to deliver the final version of the script over to Fox, so
things might still change between now and when cameras finally start rolling.
According to HitFix,
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams will use the sensibilities she brought to Arya
Stark to play Rahne Sinclair, a.k.a. Wolfsbane, while The Witch breakout star
Anya Taylor-Joy will play Colossus' younger sister Illyana Nikolievna Rasputin,
or as she is better known, Magik.
Also expected to join
the team are Alexandra Shipp, who will make her debut as Storm in Bryan
Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse, and James McAvoy, who reprises his franchise role
as Professor X.
Furthermore, Sunspot,
Cannonball, and Mirage are also expected to be part of the team of teenage
mutant superheroes.
Wolfsbane is a
Scottish mutant with the ability to transform into a wolf or stay somewhere in
between both forms. Though in control of her powers, she can sometimes lose
control and let her feral instincts take over. She is the daughter of a man of
the cloth, and a prostitute. The mother died during birth, and the father's
harsh and cruel treatment of her, including trying to exorcise (burn her at the
stake), left her emotionally scarred for much of her life.
As for Magik, she
comes from a very powerful and old mutant bloodline that extends as far as her
great-great-grandfather. Such a lineage doesn't happen by chance, and it is
revealed that it was all due to genetic manipulation performed by none other
than fan favorite Nathaniel Essex, a.k.a. Mr. Sinister. As the name implies, Magik's
powers include magic, necromancy, astral projection, levitation, dimensional
manipulation, teleportation, soul absortion, and time manipulation.
