Starz has round out its cast for the upcoming small
screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel American Gods with the
addition of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation villain Sean Harris, Aquarius'
Yetide Badaki, and newcomer Bruce Langley.
American Gods centers on a war brewing between old and new gods: the
traditional gods of biblical and mythological roots from around the
world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon
of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media,
celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), is an ex-con
who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday (Ian
McShane), a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a
cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to
battle the new deities.
Harris is set to play Mad Sweeney, a "down on his luck
leprechaun, who is having a hard time understanding how he lost his charm and
way. Always up for a good fight, Sweeney is never deprived while in the
employment of Mr. Wednesday."
Badaki will play Bilquis the ancient goddess of loves
who yearns for the kind of worship she used to inspire centuries ago, and who is
keen to find a place in today's world.
As for Langley, is he is Technical Boy, one of the New
Gods and "purveyor of all things technology," who not so ironically
is desperate to prove himself and gain respect and power. His impulsivity and
petulance make him dangerously unpredictable.
Also
starring Emily Browning as Laura Moon, American Gods has Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller and Smallville producer Michael
Green attached as writers and showrunners, with David Slade (Hannibal)
directing the pilot as well as any future episodes.
