Even though he evades
repeating himself as a director with sequels, Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) immediately jumped
onboard Kingsman 2 once 20th Century Fox proposed a sequel to the box-office
hit, Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Now speaking to Empire, Vaughn
offered some details as well as some pieces of concept art about Eggsy (Taron
Egerton) and Merlin's (Mark Strong) return in the officially titled Kingsman:
The Golden Circle.
"I didn’t know
if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films
are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole
storyline in place, and a new villain plot."
"You try not to
read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no
reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never
seen before."
Kingsman: The Secret Service
grossed over $414 million worldwide on a $81 million production budget.
Also starring Halle Barry as
the head of the CIA, and Julianne Moore as the villain, Kingsman: The Golden
Circle opens in theaters on June 10, 2017.
