Academy Award winning actor J.K. Simmons has joined
Zack Snyder's upcoming Justice League, where he will play Gotham City Police Commissioner
James Gordon opposite Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot
(Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (Flash), and Ray Fisher (Cyborg).
For Simmons, Commissioner Gordon will be the second time
he plays a comic book character following. Between 2002 and 2007, the actor
played J. Jonah Jameson, Peter Parker's publisher at the Daily Bugle in Sam
Reimi's Spider-Man trilogy. The actor also voiced the character in several
Marvel animated series including Ultimate Spider-Man, and The Avengers: Earth's
Mightiest Heroes.
Oscar winning screenwriter Chris Terrio (Argo) wrote
the screenplay for Justice League, which Warner Bros. split into two movies. Justice
League: Part One will start filming in April for a November 17, 2017 release,
while Part Two will open in theaters on June 14, 2019.
Various actors have played Commissioner Gordon throughout
the years. Most recently the character was played by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy
of films, and Ben McKenzie in the Gotham TV series currently airing on Fox.
