As Sony Pictures and
Marvel Studios fully begin the casting process for the new
Spider-Man reboot, word has got out that actress-singer Zendaya has landed a
role opposite Tom Holland, who was cast last year as Peter Parker, a.k.a.
Spider-Man so he could join the ranks of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War.
According to Deadline,
Zendaya will play Michelle, a character of significant weight to the new
Spider-Man story. Details are unsurprisingly under lock and key, so it is
unclear what role she will play in the film.
Zendaya is an
up-and-coming actress but already a veteran of the Disney Channel. Besides having
credits on iCarly and Good Luck Charlie, the 20-year-old actress is the star of
Shake It Up! and K.C. Undercover, also on the Disney Channel.
Cop Car writer/director
Jon Watts will direct the new Spider-Man standalone movie from a script by John
Frances Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, which Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige will
produce for Sony and Marvel, respectively.
