Paramount Pictures has announced the release dates for the next
three Transformers sequels.
Transformers 5 will open in theaters on June 23, 2017,
followed by Transformers 6 on June 8, 2018, and Transformers 7 on June 28,
2019.
Last year
Paramount set up Academy Award winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful
Mind) as head of a Transformers writer's room with the intent of coming up with
stories for the next few movies and spinoffs. The room included Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil), Art
Marcum and Matt Holloway (Punisher: War Zone), Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk),
Jeff Pinkner (Lost), and
Andrew Berrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man), Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), and
newcomers Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson, and Christina Hodson.
Marcum
and Holloway wrote the script for Transformers
5, which Michael Bay will direct with Transformers:
Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg reprising his role.
In a recent interview, Bay revealed
that Transformers 5 would be his last directing a
Transformers movie, however the decision was made prior to the release of his latest
film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, which flopped, so it's unclear
if that is still the plan.
Transformers 5 will open alongside Warner Bros. Wonder
Woman standalone movie starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, while Transformers 6
has been scheduled to go up against another one of Warner property, Godzilla 2.
As for Transformers 7 it stands alone in its release date.
