Straight Outta Compton breakout star Corey Hawkins has landed the
leading role in the new 24 series, 24: Legacy.
The actor, who played Dr. Dre in the N.W.A. biopic, takes over Kiefer
Sutherland who fronted the show for eight seasons and one miniseries as Jack
Bauer.
Hawkins will play a
"strong and smart" character named Eric Carter, who "came from a very rough background and turned his life
around in the Army Rangers," reads the official description released by
Fox. "Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, he’s pulled back
into action as his past comes looking for him." Carter joins
the Counter Terrorist Unit and tries to prevent an attack on American soil.
Unlike the original series where Bauer was for the most part alone,
Legacy will feature two leads. Besides Hawkins, the show will also feature a
female lead.
None of the cast from the original show is expected
to make an appearance in Legacy, which has received a pilot order, and if
picked up will have twelve and not twenty-four episodes.
Besides
Straight Outta Compton, Hawkins credits include a role in AMC's The Walking
Dead, Non-Stop, and has a role in Kong: Skull Island.
