I don't know if fans were
clamoring for a Blade Runner sequel but one is indeed coming with Prisoners and
Sicario team, director Denis Villeneuve and legendary cinematographer Roger
Deakins.
Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote
the 1982 movie based on Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep,
returns to co-write the follow-up with Michael Green based on an idea from
Fancher and Ridley Scott.
We already knew that
production was expected to begin sometime this summer, but with the announcement
that Sony Pictures has found an international distributor for the sequel also
comes news that Blade Runner 2 will officially begin filming in July. Warner
Bros. will distribute the movie in North America.
Blade Runner 2 is set decades
after the end of the first movie, and will star Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard,
and Ryan Gosling in a yet unknown role.
