Like so many franchises that have concluded, it looks like The Hunger
Games could live on through prequels, or at least that is the plan Lionsgate's
Vice Chairman Michael Burns revealed during the UBS Global Media and
Communications Conference in New York, where he said that the franchise "will
live on and on."
Burns didn't offer specifics on the what the prequels would explore,
but he pointed out that in the first two installments, The Hunger Games, and
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, there were arenas, which held the 74th and
75th editions of the Hunger Games, and that younger fans missed those in the
latter movies. "If we went backwards there obviously would be arenas."
Lionsgate hasn't issued an official comment but Burns meanwhile added that "whatever
extensions of ‘The Hunger Games’ brand we pursue, the intent is not to glorify
violence by arbitrarily telling arena stories, but to continue Suzanne
Collins’s exploration of the concepts of just war theory."
