Universal Pictures has been cautiously reserved about
their forthcoming Monsterverse, where they plan to reintroduce their classic roster
of monsters starting with Alex Kurtzman's reboot of The Mummy.
Kurtzman, who besides directing and producing the
reboot is also alongside Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious) spearheading the
shared universe, recently revealed that his vision for the monster would stay
true to the character's origins in that he would be wrapped in bandages, but would
also depart from what was previously done by placing him in a modern setting.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter goes one-step further in
the ways Kurtzman plans to break the mold, and revealed that we could see a
female mummy instead of a more traditional male one. According to the trade,
the gender of the character is up in the air and will only be decided once the casting
is completed. Apparently, Kurtzman and writer Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) have come
up with two story options, one where the character is male and another one
where the character is female.
Frankly I wasn't particularly excited in seeing
another Mummy, but if the studio decides to go with a woman for the role, my interest
on the property rises slightly, what about yours?
