Hold on to your lightsabers,
it looks like J.J. Abrams Star Wars: The Force Awakens, like many other films,
will also include a post credit scene, but, and here is the twist, it won't be
a tease for Rian Johnson's Episode VIII weirdly, but for Gareth Edwards
spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
According to SchmoesKnow, a
"trusted source" close to The Force Awakens has revealed that there
will be a small clip and teaser for Rogue One at the end of Abrams' film, though
they caution that we should consider this a rumor since details are scarce at
this time.
The possible inclusion of a
post credit scene in Force Awakens goes against the history of Star Wars, but
we can't deny that its use has become more prevalent in recent years,
especially in big studio projects. I guess it all comes down to how they
incorporate it into the film. If it is just an isolated teaser or trailer after
the credits, then I'm fine with it, but if they somehow try to directly tie
both projects then I have a problem. The Force Awakens should move the main
storyline of the franchise forward, even if the spinoffs don't.
I guess Lucasfilm is just
trying to make sure Rogue One is a hit, and that even people that have never
seen Star Wars (1977) are fully onboard with this tangent to the Episodic
franchise.
