After Daredevil,
Marvel showed that they aren't afraid to in a way distance themselves from the
family friendly universe they have built and instead explore darker, riskier,
and more mature material.
Krysten Ritter recently
appeared on This Week in Marvel podcast to talk about the second Marvel Netflix
series, Jessica Jones. During the interview, the actress revealed she shot some
risqué scenes with fellow co-star Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage in the
series. "At the end of the day, I also knew Mike had my back. Whether we
were doing stunts together, or love-making scenes, which I'm not very
comfortable with."
A sex scene or scenes
isn't something major by any stretch of the imagination, but for a Marvel
property to go that way it seems that Jessica Jones will follow down the path
that Daredevil opened, by offering a more realistic and approachable take on superheroes.
Jessica Jones just
wrapped filming, and outside of some scenes she had to ADR (Automated Dialogue
Replacement), Ritter hasn't seen much of it yet, but that actress says that
what she did saw almost brought her to tears.
Usually
a hero is only as good as the villain they are going up against, and in Jones'
case that means having to deal with Zebediah Killgrave, aka The Purple Man,
played by David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch). In the comics, Killgrave uses
his power to force Jones into doing his bidding, which included staying with
him for 8 months, attack the police, the Avengers, and anyone else that got in
her way. Her traumatic encounter with The Purple Man is one of the reasons why
Jones decided to quit being a superhero.
With
the Netflix angle of Marvel being darker than the rest of the universe they
have constructed, will Jessica Jones delve this deep into this particular
story? "It's twisted around and expanded on and developed," revealed Ritter.
Jessica Jones will
premiere later this year on Netflix.
