A Crossover Between Marvel TV And Film Is Inevitable Says Kevin Feige

Known for taking the concept of a shared universe to another level by intricately weaving characters, themes, and plot points throughout the entire series of movies, Marvel has yet to embrace the same plan when it comes to their small screen properties. Yes Captain America: The Winter Soldier radically changed the landscape of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and it is true that Coulson and his team helped in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it still feels like these are two separate and distinct worlds, with one (tv) living of the breadcrumbs of the other (movie). And with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. moving away from the cinematic universe storyline and focusing on the Inhumans, and Netflix offering a more mature take on some of Marvel's "street level" characters like Daredevil, it looks like both worlds are getting further apart, despite technically existing in the same universe and continuity.

At a recent Q&A for the upcoming Blue-ray release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that he is hopeful that both the TV and Film worlds will crossover more effectively, but adds that it is difficult to align the stars for that to happen.

"I think that’s inevitable at some point, as we’re plotting the movies going forward and they’re doing the shows. The schedules don’t always quite match up to make that possible—it’s easier for them, they’re more nimble and faster and produce things quicker than we do, which is one of the main reasons you see the repercussions of Winter Soldier or Age of Ultron in the show. But going forward, and certainly as they do more shows and cast them with such great actors as they have—particularly in Daredevil—that may occur. But the reality of it is by the time we start doing a movie, they’d be midway through a season then by the time the movie comes out they’d be done with the second and starting the third season, so finding timing on that is not always easy."

It's true that casting such talent as Vincent D'Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Krysten Ritter, Rosario Dawson, or Carrie-Anne Moss and not use them in the MCU is a sin, but now that Feige has distanced himself from the TV world, chances are that introducing these characters and others is a bit of a long shot, but fingers crossed.
