One of the problems in having villains at the center
of a story is that you run the risk of having the audience not caring about
what is happening right before their eyes. They can't connect with what the
characters are going for.
Speaking to Deadline, Viola Davis, who is plays Amanda
Waller in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, revealed that the director was able to
make the super villain team somehow approachable.

However, do not expect Suicide Squad to be a study on
the minds of criminally insane. It's a summer blockbuster after all.
"At the same time, you get all the stuff that
you’ve gotten before, which is the action, the special effects, the great
makeup. I’m blown away by the movie. Once I saw the trailer, I was like, 'Oh,
my God. He really is a magician.' I mean, I had no idea. It’s been a real
pleasure working on it with David Ayer."
Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 6, 2016.
