Back in April we reported that Paramount Pictures was in the process of
developing a TV series based on director
Dean Parisot's 1999 Star Trek spoof film, Galaxy Quest. Now
according to Entertainment Weekly, Paramount has reached a deal with Amazon
Studios to develop the late 90s film to TV.
The film starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan
Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico
Colantoni and Justin Long, and followed an aging group
of actors, resigned to make a living out of the re-runs of the popular sci-fi
TV series they were in, and conventions. While attending one such convention,
the cast is kidnapped by a group of aliens, who believe the series was real.
Now aboard a spaceship, they are asked to help fight against the oppressive
regime currently ruling over their solar system.
At
this time it's unknown if any of the original cast will return, but the film’s
co-writer Robert Gordon is onboard to pen the script and executive
produce the pilot. The film’s director Dean Parisot has also joined
the project and will direct and executive produce, alongside the original executive
producers, Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein.
