20th Century Fox and Ubisoft have released the first
official image of Michael Fassbender in Assassin's Creed. Based (not adapted)
on the popular video game franchise, Assassin's Creed will see Fassbender play
Callum Lynch, a brand new character in the franchise.
In the film, Lynch
discovers he's a descendent of the mysterious Assassin society after he unlocks
the "genetic
memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in
15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised
to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day."
The official synopsis has not been made available yet so we do not know the
extent of the changes made to the video game's core mythology, but it sounds
like even with the introduction of a new character, Justin Kurzel's (MacBeth) film
will not stray too far off the game franchise. As for Fassbender's looks,
besides looking like a badass it is very reminiscent of the video game.
Opening on December
21, 2016, Assassin's Creed also stars Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael
Kenneth Williams (12 Years a Slave),
and Ariane Labed (Before Midnight).
Production is expected to start this Monday in Malta, then London, followed
by Spain
