With Mission:
Impossible - Rogue Nation doing well enough at the box office, Tom Cruise is
moving on to another one of his franchises or soon to be franchise, Jack
Reacher. In 2012, Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie helmed Cruise in
what I thought was a rather lackluster and not particularly thrilling
adaptation of the Lee Child's One Shot novel from the Jack Reacher series of
books, but the film made just over $200 million, so Paramount and Skydance are partnering up for a follow-up. Paramount and Skydance are also
partners on the Mission: Impossible franchise, as well as the first Jack Reacher movie.
The intent it seems
is to start shooting the Jack Reacher sequel in November of 2015 for a late
2016 premiere. We still don't know much about the plot, or who else besides
Cruise will star in it, but the last thing we heard from the project was that The
Last Samurai, and Defiance writer and director Edward Zwick was in talks to helm
the sequel, but now according to The Hollywood Reporter Zwick is in indeed
attached to direct it.
