New Line Cinema has announced that whether you sleep or not they are planning
to reboot the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, with an all-new take on the
iconic character that will completely disregard the 2010 film starring Jackie Earle
Haley as Freddy Krueger, Rooney Mara, Clancy Brown, and Connie Britton. To do
that the studio has tapped David Leslie Johnson, who recently had Warner Bros.
put his script for a new Dungeons & Dragons adaptation into development.
The horror franchise first came to be in 1984 at the hands of Wes Craven,
and since then it has grown to nine films including the remake and crossover
with Friday the 13th, video games, comic books, TV series, and a multitude of
novels.
With a Halloween reboot in the works, a Friday the 13th sequel being prepped,
and a Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel titled Leatherface in development, A Nightmare
on Elm Street isn't alone in the list of popular horror/slasher franchises
being revived. Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Leatherface are all due out next
year.
