After hearing words like grounded, real and Cronenbergian in the way the
characters are presented after attaining their powers (think of The Fly), many
fans started wondering (if they already hadn't) about the tone of the film, and
how far off the source material had the latest adaptation of Marvel's First
Family gone.
Early promotional content made the film seem slightly dour, but with the
August 7 release date nearer and nearer, Fox has decided to shift gears and
market the film as an action packed, fun, superhero movie, and to drive the
idea home, when Entertainment Weekly caught up with Josh Trank, the director
revealed that there will be some serious Clobberin Time happening.
"The audience should expect an epic, massive,
huge, multi power slugfest," he teased. "This movie is big. A lot of
stakes."
Trank's Fantastic Four is a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original
and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who
teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical
form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to
harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a
former friend turned enemy.
