Last month MGM
announced that they had strike a deal with UFC champion Ronda Rousey (The
Expendables 3, Furious 7) for her to headline their forthcoming remake of the
1989 action movie, Road House. Now, per Variety, the studio has locked down
Nick Cassavetes to both write and direct the project.
The trade adds that what
helped Cassavetes land the job was his 2004 The Notebook and 2014 The Other
Woman, saying that "sources say it was his skill of writing strong
roles for women that was a major selling point for execs."
Variety
also says that the prep work will start after November 14, a day after Rousey
defends her title, and that filming should begin in the first quarter of 2016.
