With Joe and Anthony Russo ripping the Avengers apart in Captain America:
Civil War, and Scott Derrickson introducing us to the world of "magic"
in Doctor Strange, 2016 will be an exciting year for Marvel. However, it slightly
pales in comparison with the following year, which will prove quite difficult
for the studio that has to successfully reboot Spider-Man
alongside Sony, potentially destroy their cinematic universe in Thor: Ragnarok, and deliver both a critical and box-office hit
sequel in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
No pressure then.
Speaking to Collider during the press junket for Ant-Man, Marvel Studios
President Kevin Feige offered an update to the eventful year, with an estimate as
to when the three anticipated films will start production.
"We literally just crossed the halfway mark of [Captain
America:] Civil War last week,
it’s day 42 or 43 of 80", said Feige. "We start filming Doctor Strange in London in November. We start
shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 in
February-March [2016]. We start filming Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man around
the same time, around June of next year."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will open on May 5,
Spider-Man opens a couple of months later on July 28, while Thor: Ragnarok is
scheduled to premiere on November 3, 2017.
