After an introductory
video, 20th Century Fox has now released the first trailer and poster for Ridley
Scott's adaptation of Andy Weir's novel, The Martian.
Matt Damon stars as astronaut
Mark Watney, who after being mistakenly left behind on the red planet by his
teammates, needs to find an away to survive and signal Earth and let them know
he's still alive.
Since it's Ridley Scott you
know that it will be visually stunning, but I'm more slightly concern with the
tonality of the film. I know this is a trailer and we shouldn't assume too
much, however there are some witty one-liners that feel out of place in a film
about someone that is all alone and stranded on a different planet.
Opening on November 25, The
Martian also stars Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica
Chastain, Michael Peña, Sebastian Stan, Donald Glover, Jeff
Daniels, Aksel Hennie, and Kate Mara.
During a manned mission to
Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm
and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded
and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon
his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that
he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international
scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates
concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories
of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s
safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director
Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica
Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel
Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.
