Lionsgate announced today that principal photography on
the second to last entry in the Divergent franchise, The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 1 has started in Atlanta with Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jonny Weston, Mekhi Phifer, and Daniel Dae Kim.
After the earth-shattering revelations of Insurgent, in Allegiant - Part 1
Tris (Shailene Woodley) must escape with Four (Theo James) beyond the Wall that
encircles Chicago to finally discover the shocking truth of what lies behind
it.
I'm still in awe that Lionsgate is still betting on the franchise since it
never took off like The Hunger Games did. The first film, Divergent made $288
million worldwide on an $85 million production budget, while the second film,
Insurgent on a raised budget of $110 only managed to gross $274 million.
Robert Schwentke returns to direct Allegiant – Part 1, which in addition to the returning cast also includes Jeff Daniels as the morally ambiguous David, Bill Skarsgård as Matthew, and Nadia Hilker as Nita.
Like in The Hunger Games, the last Veronica Roth novel has been split in two, with The Divergent
Series: Allegiance - Part 1 opening on March 18, 2016, and The Divergent
Series: Allegiance - Part 2 a year later on March 24, 2017.
