It seems that despite Paramount Pictures creating a writer's room for the Transformers franchise, Hasbro is the one guiding its
future.
Yesterday we learned that the toy company had come up
with an idea to have an origin story set on the Transformers home world of
Cybertron, and today the company has come up with a new one, to have spinoffs
focused on certain characters, namely Bumblebee the voiceless yellow Camaro.
During a presentation at the Global Consumer
Conference, Hasbro's CEO Brian Goldner discussed the future of the film
franchise and stated that:
"Many of you know Bumblebee; the
yellow Camaro… formally known as a yellow VW Bug and he is a beloved character
by kids all over the world," Goldner explained. "We could see stories
told around Bumblebee and other characters. We are in a process of building the
brand equity around the Comic Book Business, our TV Business, our Digital
Gaming Business and adding to that our new movie business of Transformers".
The
Transformers writer's room is being spearheaded by Akiva Goldsman, and includes Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Art Marcum and Matt
Holloway (Punisher: War Zone), Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk), Jeff Pinkner
(Lost), and Andrew Berrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man).
