In an attempt at some
counter programming, Warner Bros. has decided to move their sequel to National
Lampoon's Vacation from its original October 9th release date to July 31st,
which will put the comedy directly opposite Paramount Pictures Mission:
Impossible - Rogue Nation.
Vacation will star Ed
Helms as an older Rusty Griswold, who like his dad decides to take the family
on a family vacation that goes wrong. Christina Applegate is set to star has
his wife. Leslie Mann will play Helms sister, Audrey, who is married to Chris
Hemsworth. Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo will reprise their roles but in a
cameo capacity.
The move shows that
the studio has faith in John Francis Daley, and Jonathan Goldstein's
directorial debut, after some conflict over the film rating. The directors
wanted an R like in the original, while New Line wanted to reach a wider
audience with a PG-13. It's unclear who won the argument.
