In a weird move, Warner Bros have acquired the rights
to Gary Graham's Black List script, A Garden at the End of the World and will be
retrofitting it to reboot I Am Legend. Graham himself will be rewriting his own
spec script to fit into the I Am Legend universe.
Described as a "sci-fi version of The Searchers",
Graham's script was written and submitted to the Black List site while he was
working at the Apple store.
So far, Will Smith is not attached to star in the
project, and it is difficult to say if he ever will as he was quoted saying that he
wasn't attached to the previous attempt at making the sequel, and probably
wouldn't be.
As cumbersome as the idea of buying an original script
and then automatically rewrite it to reboot a franchise that is based on preexisting
novel (Richard Matheson) is, Warner Bros. is probably just looking to
capitalize on the well known name of the property.
What do you think?
