Spider-Man's future doesn't look
all that good if the next rumors are to be confirmed.
The previous round of rumors had
Sony and Marvel discussing a possible merger of sorts for the character but so
far nothing official.
Today two new rumors about the future of Sony's
property have been revealed by Badass Digest, who claim that "Sony is going to soft reboot Spider-Man with The
Sinister Six, having a new actor playing a Spidey who works with the villains
The Dirty Dozen style to take down a larger threat."
Doing a soft reboot could help "save"
the rest of Sony's Spidey franchise, but recasting after two movies, seems
overkill, specially because the problem with the last film wasn't Andrew
Garfield, it was the movie itself.
They also say that there is a plan B,
which is "to put Spider-Man on the shelf for four or five years and see if
they can develop any of the side characters into their own franchises."
How are they going to introduce
Spider-Man side characters without Spider-Man? It's not like Sony is Marvel or
Fox and has an established cinematic universe. They should just focus on making
a good, not great, just good Amazing Spider-Man 3 and introduce new characters
there, and when I say new characters, I don't mean three villains in a row.
BD also claims that the announced
Venom spin-off film is "functionally
dead again."
As always take it with a grain of salt.
